Shakhtar sensation Henrikh is Liverpool's latest transfer target

The Guardian reports that Liverpool is willing to splash as much as £22 million for the 24 year old Armenian international Henrikh Mkhitaryan who had a 25 goal season for the Ukrainian giants Shakhtar Donetsk. The three-time Armenian Footballer of the Year award winner might be an ideal replacement for the problematic Luis Suarez who has garnered as much notoriety as fame for his improper acts on the football pitch.

With Suarez also indicating that he no longer feels comfortable living among the English media, Liverpool’s focus must shift to finding suitable alternatives which will help the club regain its competitive edge and enable it to compete consistently for a spot in the top 4.

Mkhitaryan, the top scorer in the Ukrainian Premier League this season, has now won three consecutive league titles with his club and is actively being scouted by other top clubs around Europe. He had also stated recently in an interview (1.) that it is upto his club to decide in case an offers comes calling.

The Armenian, who plays as a second striker for his club, is a popular figure among his teammates and is always quick to deflect accolades and credit success to the entire team.

Liverpool’s failure to qualify for the Europa League this season might be their biggest hurdle in attracting the talent they wish for but with the presence of world class players like the evergreen Steven Gerrard and budding striker Sturridge, the club might be able to persuade Henrikh to come to Anfield as they continue their quest to regain the form which saw them win the Champions Trophy in 2005. Henrikh is an exciting prospect for the Reds and the fans might be delighted to welcome a player of his stature.
