Roy not underestimating Newcastle

Roy Hodgson won't be underestimating the threat posed by Newcastle United at St James' Park tomorrow. There is likely to be a furious atmosphere at tomorrow's game as the Newcastle fans turn their ire on their board following the sacking of Chris Hughton and the appointment of Alan Pardew. However, Hodgson believes this won't affect the Geordies' players and they will still give the Reds a tough match, especially if they're trying to impress their new boss. "It can work both ways. I've certainly seen quotes from the players expressing surprise that Chris didn't get a new contract or a chance to continue this season, but players are very resilient," said Hodgson. "They are used to managers coming and going. Of course they'll have to be mindful of the fact they are playing in front of a new manager and playing for their positions. "It could have the effect that clubs want - it could be a shot in the arm to the players. "Their main threat as a team is the offensive threat of Carroll and the two wingers - Gutierrez on the left and Routledge on the right. They provide a good service for Carroll, who's extremely strong in the air, and Nolan, who is back from injury and can score a lot of goals. "Of course Barton has been a big miss for them in recent weeks. He was playing very well in the centre of midfield. "I've seen them playing very, very well against Everton earlier in the season, and I've seen them destroy Sunderland - another good team who were above them in the table. "It'll be a big match for us but it's up to us to reproduce the form we've shown in recent weeks and ask them questions."
