Roy Hodgson: Where do Liverpool go from here?

06 January 2011 13:48
So the problems continue for Liverpool. And boy, do they continue.[LNB]Wednesday night's miserable 3-1 defeat at Blackburn came only a week after Wolves humbled the Merseysiders at Anfield.[LNB]It's hard to believe that only two years have passed since Liverpool made their most serious title challenge of the Premier League era, when many insist the Reds should have beaten Manchester United to the finishing line in 2009.[LNB]So where do you think Liverpool go from here?[LNB] Just what is going wrong? Liverpool players are dejected on a miserable night at Blackburn[LNB]You may believe that a further period of instability is the last thing the club needs, and that manager Roy Hodgson simply needs more time to sort out the club's problems.[LNB]It's not as if he inherited the world's greatest collection of players from Rafa Benitez. And after only a few months in the job, it will surely be seen by many in the game as a knee-jerk reaction.[LNB]Perhaps the boss has a point when he talks of the expectations at Anfield being too high. For those of us that remember the days when Liverpool ruled the game, there will always be a respect for the club.[LNB]But let's be honest, those days of success are becoming ever more distant. Talk about Liverpool's success in this office and elsewhere, and twenty somethings will generally look at you blankly. A whole generation has grown up with the club disappointing and flattering to deceive, aside from that famous triumph in Istanbul.[LNB]Do you honestly still think the club's magnificent history, with their 18 league titles and five European Cups, mean they should always be challenging for honours?[LNB] Tough times: But would Liverpool fans really back replacing struggling manager Roy Hodgson (left) with former hero Kenny Dalglish (right)[LNB]If you do think the club should always be one of the game's leading lights, do you believe Hodgson is really the man to help lead Liverpool back to the promised land?[LNB]It has to be said there have been some truly awful results so far this term. Wolves weren't the first club to leave Anfield with their hosts embarrassed over the past few months.[LNB] Blackpool won there in the league back in the autumn, and even Northampton emerged victorious on a night of Carling Cup misery for the Reds. Perhaps it's time the board did think of making a change at the top.[LNB]And if it does come down to a Hodgson departure, who should replace him? Is talk of Kenny Dalglish really serious? It would be a nice nostalgia trip for those of us who enjoyed his verbal sparring with Sir Alex Ferguson in the 1980s, but is the Scot really best equipped to lead such a big club after so long out of the game?[LNB]There are so many questions then, and all we want is to hear some of your answers.[LNB]HAVE YOUR SAY: WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE PROBLEMS AT LIVERPOOL?
