Roy Hodgson says Liverpool fans forced him out of Anfield

Roy Hodgson believes unhappy fans and boardroom unrest at Anfield meant he did not stand a chance of succeeding at Liverpool.[LNB]The new West Bromwich boss is preparing to be reunited with his former club on Saturday, just two months after being sacked and replaced by Kop legend Dalglish.[LNB]Hodgson was sacked in January after a string of poor results, including a home defeat to newly-promoted Blackpool, and a shock exit from the League Cup at the hands of League Two minnows Northampton Town at Anfield.[LNB] No chance: Hodgson with Chris Hughton - another top-flight boss axed this season - at a bash in London this week[LNB]And his time in charge of was accompanied by the fans calling for Dalglish to take over, and he says he knew that his time was up once former owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett left the club.[LNB]He told the Daily Mirror: 'The people who employed me didn't stay too long. I think for the new owners they obviously found themselves in a difficult situation because we weren't winning enough games.[LNB]'The fans were making it clear they wanted me gone and someone else in. Everyone knows for one minute I can't suggest I felt wanted at Liverpool.[LNB]'It is not exactly a secret I wasn't perceived by a lot of people as the manager they wanted at Liverpool. They wanted somebody else and that makes life a lot more difficult.[LNB]'It was my misfortune to be at a club where the fans made it pretty clear early on they really wanted the manager they have got now.' [LNB] New dawn: Hodgson had hoped to bring the good times back to Anfield[LNB]And Dalglish reckons Hodgson has nothing to prove ahead of his Liverpool reunion, but has warned he can expect a rough reception from the travelling fans, who never warmed to him.[LNB]Dalglish said: 'Roy hasn't got anything to prove to anybody. If you say he has extra motivation then you are doubting the man's integrity and implying he never had enough motivation before.[LNB]'It's Liverpool versus West Brom and we'll face a team that has been prepared by Roy.
