Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has revealed the club have spoken to Raheem Sterling's representatives about a new deal - and insists the winger is happy to stay at Anfield.

Teenage England international Sterling, arguably the Reds' most impressive performer so far this season, has recently been linked with Spanish giants Real Madrid.

The 19-year-old, who joined Liverpool's academy from QPR in 2010, signed a "long-term" deal with the Merseysiders in 2012.

And regarding the situation in terms of fresh contract talks with Sterling, Rodgers says "everything is calm".

The manager, quoted by the Liverpool Echo, said: "It is not a big issue for us.

"(Liverpool chief executive) Ian Ayre has spoken to his representatives and is quite relaxed.

"The club is dealing with the agent so everything is calm.

"The boy is remarkably happy here and there are no secondary thoughts about anything else other than continuing to play for Liverpool.

"He still has a lot of growth and for that the best place for him to be is here.

"His representatives know that and we as a club respect that so that will get sorted out with time."

Asked if Sterling's representatives believe Liverpool is the best place for him, Rodgers replied: "I don't see anything different from that.

"His agent is a good agent and understands that this is the perfect place for him."
