Rodgers slams Premier League over fixtures

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has criticised the Premier League for the scheduling of Sunday's match against former club Swansea at Anfield.

This weekend's only Premier League fixture means Liverpool will play three times in a week after losing to top-flight rivals West Brom 2-0 on Monday and going down by the same scoreline away to Zenit St Petersburg in the first leg of their last 32 Europa League clash on Thursday.

Asked Friday about the timing of Sunday's match, Rodgers -- who left Swansea before the start of this season to join Liverpool, replied: "I was very disappointed with the Premier League to be honest.

"To put it in on a week when we have played on a Monday and played on a Thursday in an away trip to Russia, and put it in between that and another important European game on Thursday...I think it is another example of the Premier League not helping teams whatsoever.

"I think every other country in Europe will always try to help their teams -- some of them will play on a Friday before a European game.

"So for us to have it thrown in there when there were other free weeks was bemusing to say the least."
