Liverpool are chasing the highly rated winger Lazar Markovic who is currently resting during the World Cup with Serbia having failed to qualify. The young winger plays for Benfica and it is understood that Rodgers wants to bring him to Anfield. The Serbian international star had been linked with a move to Chelsea but reports suggest that Liverpool may move quickly to strengthen their squad ahead of their new Champions League commitments.

It was originally thought that Rodgers would only want either Adam Lallana or Lazar Markovic but reports in the Mirror suggest that Liverpool could sign both. The 20-year-old Markovic joined Benfica in 2013 from Partizan where he made 26 appearances and scored 5 goals. The player is noted for exceptional skilful ball-control qualities and impressive acceleration which would certainly compliment his teams great pace.

Lazar graduated to the senior Serbian squad in 2012 where he has so far made 12 appearances and scored 2 goals after briefly playing for the U21 side. According to the Liverpool Echo the player is valued at £25million which is the figure Liverpool will offer Benfica for the services of their winger.
