Riise exit talk rebuffed

Norway international John Arne Riise will not be leaving Liverpool this week, according to the player's agent.

Speculation has linked Riise with a move away from Anfield for much of the season, with Newcastle United and Aston Villa the favourites to land him.

The 27-year-old has made more than 300 first-team appearances for the Reds since joining the club from AS Monaco in the summer of 2001, but he has struggled to find his best form this season.

However, Riise's representative, Jan Kvalheim, told Nettavisen: "There are probably a lot of teams thinking about making a bid but nothing will happen.

"He has got one-and-a-half years left on his contract.

"It hasn't been an issue or important that he is sold in the transfer window - it is only journalists in England and Norway that are speculating."
