Riera calls on Reds spirit

Albert Riera believes Liverpool's 'historic spirit' in Europe means that anything is possible ahead of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg with Chelsea.[LNB] The Reds trail their domestic rivals 3-1 on aggregate following a sensational Chelsea performance at Anfield last week.[LNB]Rafa Benitez's side now require a healthy second-leg victory at Stamford Bridge, and must score at least three goals, on Tuesday night in order to progress to the semi-finals.[LNB]But Riera feels that Liverpool - who famously won the 2005 final on penalties after coming back from a three-goal first-half deficit against AC Milan - have what it takes to upset Guus Hiddink's men.[LNB]"The squad believes we have the chance to eliminate Chelsea," the Spaniard told skysports.com. "This is our objective.[LNB]Exploit"Morale has recuperated after the match at Anfield and in 90 minutes it is possible to win.[LNB]"After the result at Anfield the tie is poised 70 per cent to Chelsea and 30 per cent to Liverpool. We must exploit that 30 per cent.[LNB]"It is necessary to rediscover the historical spirit of Liverpool in Europe where nothing is impossible."[LNB]Riera also takes faith from Liverpool's impressive 4-1 Premier League success over Manchester United at Old Trafford in mid-March.[LNB]"Many people have compared it to the match against Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Premier League," added the winger.[LNB]Torres threat"For me, that match was more difficult and this is our biggest confidence boost."[LNB]And the 26-year-old also feels that Spanish compatriot Fernando Torres will have a big part to play in West London.[LNB]"Fernando Torres is decisive for the match. The kid is excellent in front of goal and we will need his help to reach the semi-finals." He concluded.[LNB]Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is expected to face Chelsea despite suffering a recurrence of a groin injury. [LNB]
