Reserves win

Liverpool reserves beat Sunderland 2-1 in front of the watching Kenny Dalglish yesterday afternoon. Goals from Daniel Pacheco and Nikola Saric gave the Reds the win at the Academy. Dalglish was at the game with coaches Sammy Lee and Steve Clarke and will have been impressed with what he saw, especially the return from injury of Jay Spearing who played the full 90 minutes. The only down side for John McMahon's side was the dismissal of goalkeeper Martin Hansen for pulling down a Sunderland striker in the box. The Mackems' consolation goal came from the resulting penalty. Hansen had already saved a penalty moments earlier. "It was a good win and we produced two great finishes," said McMahon. "We are always telling the lads about the importance of an end product and they did it well today. "Pacheco is a good kid to work with and he's always got a smile on his face. He wants to work hard and do well for this club. He listens and he has an infectious enthusiasm around the place. "It was great for [Saric and Spearing] to play 90 after a break and psychologically it's a real boost. "It was fantastic to see Saric score. Technically and tactically he is very good. "It was great to have Jay back with us. He's terrific to have around the place and hopefully he can push on now and get back in the first team squad."
