Reds wait on injured duo
26 Aug 2007 - 12:21:35
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is keeping his fingers crossed that injuries suffered by Jamie Carragher and Sami Hyypia during the 2-0 victory over Sunderland will not keep them sidelined for too long.
The defensive duo look set to miss the second leg of Liverpool's Champions League qualifier with Toulouse on Tuesday after Hyypia suffered a suspected broken nose and Carragher damaged ribs at the Stadium of Light.
Captain Steven Gerrard is also a major doubt for the European clash after sitting out Saturday's game with a fractured toe.
"Sami lost the vision in his left eye and may well have broken his nose," confirmed Benitez.
"Jamie is in a lot of pain and I'm not sure if either will be involved against Toulouse. We'll wait and see."
Meanwhile, Liverpool have allowed Gabriel Paletta to return to Argentina with Boca Juniors.
The 21-year-old defender started just two Premier League games after arriving at Anfield from Banfield last summer and has been allowed to return to his native Argentina for an undisclosed fee.
