Reds wait on Benayoun scan
09 Mar 2009 - 12:32:38
Midfielder Yossi Benayoun could miss Liverpool's vital Champions League clash against Real Madrid after suffering a hamstring injury in training.
The Israel international will have a scan on the problem to see how long he will be sidelined for, while Reds boss Rafa Benitez is also monitoring the fitness of Fernando Torres, Alvaro Arbeloa and Daniel Agger.
Albert Riera definitely misses the last 16 second leg encounter at Anfield, as he is suspended after being booked in the 1-0 win at the Bernabeu a fortnight ago.
Benitez told the club's official website: "Yossi has a hamstring problem and we will know more after the scan.
"Fernando is training but not in the full sessions. We are doing special sessions with specific work with some players. Hopefully he can train today and then we will see.
"It depends on his reaction after the session and then again tomorrow. I think he can be part of the squad and maybe he can play some minutes, but I can't guarantee how much.
"It's the same for Arbeloa and Agger. We have two more training sessions before we have to decide.
"We have known that Riera will be suspended and we have two or three options in that position for this match."
