Reds vow to keep Mascherano

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is determined to keep Argentina international Javier Mascherano at Anfield.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a switch to Barcelona while midfield colleague Xabi Alonso continues to be chased by Real Madrid.

Benitez is desperate not to let both players leave this summer, but Alonso's departure now seems the more likely.

Reports suggest that Mascherano will be told during the Reds' pre-season training cap in Switzerland that he will not be sold.

He is just 18 months into a four-year deal that he signed in February 2008.

Meanwhile, the club are set to strengthen their links with Hungarian side MTK Budapest by taking five of their most promising youngsters on trial.

Goalkeeper Attila Abu, midfielders Krisztian Adorjan and Patrik Vass, striker Peter Horvath and defender Patrik Poor have all been invited to Liverpool's academy.
