Reds target Villa's Luke Young

Liverpool have made a bid in the region of £2.5million for Aston Villa defender Luke Young. The 31-year-old full-back has been told he is free to discuss terms with the Anfield club should he wish. Young started just 14 Premier League games for the Midlands club last season after slipping down the pecking order. The seven-times capped England international had joined Villa in August 2008 in a £6million deal from Middlesbrough. "There has been an offer from a football club which Luke is mulling over," revealed Villa boss Martin O'Neill to his club's official website. "If it doesn't materialise then he would also join us (on a pre-season tour in Portugal) because he needs to play some football soon. "We will see how that develops."
