Liverpool have tabled an offer for West Ham United midfielder Yossi Benayoun.
Reds boss Rafael Benitez has tracked the Israel international for a number of months and chief executive Rick Parry has revealed the club have now made a bid.
However, Parry has denied reports suggesting Liverpool had offered just £1million for the former Racing Santander and Maccabi Haifa wideman.
"I can confirm we have made an approach for Yossi Benayoun, but the figures quoted are completely wrong," Parry told the Liverpool Echo.
"Other than that we don't want to say any more."
Benayoun is reportedly close to agreeing terms on a new long-term contract to remain at Upton Park.
The Hammers paid Racing Santander £2.5million to land the 27-year-old midfielder two years ago.
