Reds deny Keane exit rumour
17 Dec 2008 - 07:43:38
Liverpool have denied rumours suggesting that they could allow £20million summer signing Robbie Keane to leave the club in the January transfer window.
Ex-Anfield defender Mark Lawrenson claimed to have spoken to current Reds skipper Steven Gerrard, who had suggested that he thought Keane would be allowed to exit Anfield in the New Year.
He told Irish radio station Today FM: "Sorry to name drop, but I had a drink with Steven Gerrard at a function on Saturday night and we were talking about Robbie Keane.
"He was saying to me that they share the same agent and he thinks something is going to happen with Robbie Keane in January.
"He thinks he's going to be moved on."
However, a club spokesman responded by saying: "Mark Lawrenson's remarks are his interpretation of a private chat between the two of them.
"They do not accurately reflect Steven's opinion of Robbie Keane and they certainly do not tally with Steven's recollection of the conversation itself."
Twenty-eight-year-old Irishman Keane has scored four goals in 23 appearances for Rafa Benitez's side since his arrival from Tottenham Hotspur.
