Reds could make Defour move
04 Aug 2009 - 08:35:51
Steven Defour's agent has revealed that Liverpool are interested in signing the Standard Liege midfielder.
With Xabi Alonso continuing to be linked with a big-money summer transfer to Real Madrid, the 21-year-old Belgium international is being touted as a possible replacement.
It had been thought that Rafa Benitez had lined up AS Roma playmaker Alberto Aquilani if Alonso leaves Merseyside but reports suggest it could be Defour who is set to move to Anfield.
Defour's agent, Paul Stefani, confirmed:"Steven's name has been mentioned not only at Real Madrid, but also at Liverpool - they are looking at him too.
"Normally he would stay for another year, but nobody could say no to clubs like those - and Liege would not stand in his way."
Everton failed with a bid to sign Defour earlier in the summer.
