Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has confirmed that his side are close to agreeing a deal to bring Ukraine striker Andriy Voronin to Anfield in the summer.
The 27-year-old is out of contract with German side Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the season and Benitez believes an agreement is close at hand.
He told the club's official website: "We are close to a deal. The scouting department has been working on this possibility.
"He is an experienced striker who played in the World Cup and has scored goals for Ukraine, playing with Andriy Shevchenko, as well Bayer Leverkusen."
Voronin scored on his international debut against Greece in November 2002 and has gone on to make 40 appearances for Ukraine to date.
Before joining Bayer in the summer of 2004, Voronin had also had spells in Germany with Borussia Monchengladbach, Mainz and Koln.
