    Reds clinch Kuyt coup

    18 Aug 2006 - 12:42:52

Liverpool have completed the signing of Dutch international striker Dirk Kuyt on a four-year contract from Feyenoord.

The 26-year-old joins for an undisclosed fee believed to be in the region of £10million.

Reds boss Rafa Benitez is delighted to have finally got his man, having snared Wales international forward Craig Bellamy from Blackburn Rovers earlier this summer to boost his strike options.

He told the club's official website: "I am really happy. We were looking at Dirk for a long time and I'm pleased we have signed him, because he will be a good player for us.

"He's a player with good game intelligence. He knows what to do with the ball and without the ball and he's also a very good worker.

"His movement is good, his finishing is fantastic and I know he will score a lot of goals for us, because we now have more possibilities in wide areas.

"It was important for us to strengthen this season and I'm really pleased with the backing we've had from the board.

"We've signed players who haven't been really expensive, but who are of good quality and who we know will do a good job for us."

Kuyt joined Feyenoord in 2003 from Utrecht and went on to score 71 goals in 101 appearances for the club, while has also netted four goals in 23 games for the Netherlands.
