Reds clinch Aquilani signing
08 Aug 2009 - 11:07:02
Liverpool have wrapped up the signing of Italy midfielder Alberto Aquilani from AS Roma.
The 25-year-old has signed a five-year contract with the Reds, having moved for an undisclosed fee which is reported to be as high as £20million.
Aquilani arrives on Merseyside as a direct replacement for Spain international schemer Xabi Alonso, who left the club a few days ago to join Real Madrid.
However, Reds fans will have to wait a while to see their newest recruit in action, with Aquilani currently recovering from ankle surgery.
A short statement on the club's official website read: "Liverpool FC can confirm that Alberto Aquilani has successfully completed a medical and agreed a five-year contract with the club.
"The player will now continue his rehabilitation from an ankle operation under the guidance of Liverpool's medical team and is expected to be fully fit in approximately four to eight weeks' time."
