Reds boosted by Torres news
13 Apr 2010 - 17:41:47
Liverpool striker Fernando Torres could return to action from his latest injury concern as early as next week, according to the specialist treating his knee problem.
The Spain striker missed Sunday's goalless draw with Fulham amid fears that he had suffered a recurrence of a knee injury which sidelined him for a month earlier in the season.
However, fears that the in-form striker could miss Liverpool's remaining domestic and European fixtures and possibly the World Cup Finals in South Africa this summer have now been allayed by Dr Ramon Cugat.
"The problem is not serious but he needs to stop and rest to avoid more risk because it's the same knee on which he had surgery in January," he told the Liverpool Echo.
"But in normal circumstances, he could be ready to play next week, depending on how it settles down.
"The decision is now up to Liverpool's medical staff and the manager."
The Reds are now hopeful that Torres will be fit enough to return to the side for next week's Europa League semi-final first leg encounter with former club Atletico Madrid.
