Reds accept Real's Arbeloa bid

Alvaro Arbeloa is on the verge of leaving Liverpool and signing for Real Madrid after the two clubs agreed a transfer fee for the 26-year-old.

It is believed that the right-back will leave Anfield for approximately £4million.

A Liverpool spokesman was quoted on the official website as saying: "We have agreed a fee with Real Madrid for the transfer of the player, subject to him completing a medical."

Arbeloa had earlier said: "At the moment I am focused on Liverpool but it is true that the deal is close to being completed.

"We will see what happens in the next few days, if we can all make an effort so the negotiations come to a good end, and we all come out having benefited, which is what everyone wants.

"I insist that everything is going forwards and everyone is in agreement - I'm the one who has the most desire to sign for Madrid. There is little left to resolve. It could all be sealed this week."

Arbeloa started his career at Real before moving to Deportivo La Coruna and then Liverpool in January 2007, and he went on to make 98 first-team appearances for Rafa Benitez's side.
