Liverpool are closing in on the signing of West Ham United midfielder Yossi Benayoun after agreeing a fee for the Israel international.
The 27-year-old has long been mentioned as a possible transfer target for Reds boss Rafael Benitez and the two clubs have now settled on a fee believed to be in the region of £4million.
Benayoun is Israel's national captain and has made 72 appearances for the Hammers since moving to Upton Park from Racing Santander in a £2.5million deal two years ago.
"It should be completed in the next 48 hours," Benayoun's agent Ronen Katzav is quoted as saying.
"Everybody would be happy to play for Liverpool.
"West Ham will always be in his heart but he is looking to move up a level."
Meanwhile, the Reds are set to increase their bid for Netherlands Under-21 forward Ryan Babel.
Benitez has already tabled a £10million bid for the Ajax starlet but has been told the Dutch club are holding out for a £13.5million figure.
Liverpool also continue to be linked with a surprise move for Manchester United's Argentina international defender Gabriel Heinze.
