Liverpool are waiting on the fitness of Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres and Sotirios Kyrgiakos ahead of this weekend's game at Sunderland. The trio picked up injuries on international duty this week with Kyrgiakos' injury believed to be the most serious. Kyrgiakos suffered a knee injury during Greece's 2-1 win over Luxembourg with early indications suggesting the former Rangers man may have sustained cruciate ligament damage. Liverpool will assess Kyrgiakos' injury when he returns to the club to find out the full extent of the problem. Reds boss Rafa Benitez is also waiting to learn the fitness of key duo Gerrard and Torres ahead of the trip to Wearside. Torres picked up an adductor problem in Spain's win over Armenia last weekend and he was rested for the midweek win over Bosnia-Herzegovina. Gerrard missed England's win over Belarus on Wednesday after sustaining a groin injury in the defeat by Ukraine. Torres and Gerrard both missed training on Thursday and their fitness will be monitored on Friday before Benitez finalises his squad for the game at Sunderland on Saturday. A club statement read: "Sotirios Kyrgiakos will be examined by our medical staff when he returns to Liverpool. "Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres did not train with the rest of the squad on Thursday but will continue to receive treatment and will be assessed again on Friday."
