Reds suffer friendly loss

Liverpool slumped to a 1-0 defeat against Rapid Vienna in their latest pre-season friendly in Austria.[LNB] Rapid skipper Steffen Hofmann netted the only goal with a second half free-kick to see off a strong Reds side which included Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and Yossi Benayoun.[LNB] Sunderland recorded their second successive win under new boss Steve Bruce by beating Portimonense 1-0 in Portugal.[LNB] Half-time substitute Carlos Edwards scored the only goal after home keeper Ale spilled an Anthony Stokes shot.[LNB] Elsewhere, a Hull XI recorded a comfortable 3-0 victory over non-league side Winterton Rangers.[LNB] Tom Cairney finally broke the deadlock two minutes before the break and George Boateng doubled the visitors' lead shortly after the hour mark.[LNB] Dean Marney netted the third in the 75th minute latching onto a rebound from trialist Jerome Thomas' effort.
