With the Danny Ings business done despite interest from Premier League rivals Spurs and with Milner also in the bag the focus seems to have now switched to the right-back position with Glen Johnson set to exit the club as a free-agent.

Liverpool had been interested in bringing Nethaniel Clyne to Anfield but their £10m offer was flatly rejected with the Saints not willing to let their player depart for less than £15m with their players contract set to expire in 12 months.

This has led Brendan Rodgers to consider more players such as Bunley’s Kieran Trippier understood to be under consideration according to The Star. The right-back has a release clause says the report which would make the player a cheap replacement for Johnson at just £3.5m.

Liverpool will face competitions for the Man City trainee with Aston Villa and Spurs also understood to be keeping tabs on the player of the relegated Clarets. Whilst Rodgers is understood to be interested in making another bid for Clyne the transfer committee of Liverpool are understood to like the better value the player would represent over Clyne.

The 24-year-old Kieran Trippier was loaned out to Barnsley for City after becoming a senior player before switching to Burnley in 2012 where he has made 185 appearances and scored 6 goals in all competitions. Trippier has playerd for England aT U18-U21 level but is yet to break into the senior squad.
