Liverpool striker Fabio Borini will be out of action for up to three months as he requires surgery on a broken bone in his foot. The 21-year-old initially incurred a problem in the 2-1 home defeat to Manchester United on 23 September. He then aggravated the problem and fractured the bone, forcing him to return home from international duty woth Italy last week. After further assessment from the Liverpool medical team, the decision was taken for him to undergo surgery. Borini's injury leaves manager Brendan Rodgers short of attacking options, with Luis Suarez the only senior striker at his disposal.
