Reds' disappointment continues

Liverpool's disappointing pre-season continued as they were held to a 1-1 draw in their friendly with Thailand at Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok. The Reds, who want to win the Premier League, are still searching for their first win as they build up to the new campaign after already suffering a stalemate with St Gallen and slipping to defeat against Rapid Vienna. Rafa Benitez's side were again forced to settle for a draw on Wednesday as Ryan Babel's early opener was cancelled out by Thailand substitute Sutee in the second half. The visitors took the lead in the sixth minute when centre-back Jamie Carragher hit a long diagonal ball that picked out the run of Babel, who has plenty to prove this term, and the Dutchman's touch allowed him to score with a low finish. Babel could have doubled the lead five minutes later when Krisztian Nemeth collected a weak headed clearance and played the winger down the left but goalkeeper Kosin Hathairattanakul got down well to block. Liverpool made a host of changes at the break but Martin Skrtel lasted only 10 minutes before limping off and fellow substitute Nabil El Zhar was replaced two minutes later. Javier Mascherano, whose agent has claimed the midfielder wants to leave England amidst links to Barcelona, warmed Kosin's hands with a stinging drive but the second half was proving a low-key affair. However, in the 71st minute Thailand, managed by Peter Reid, equalised as Sutee played a neat one-two with Teerasil Dungda, and the former's left-footed finish found the bottom corner beyond substitute goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi's outstretched hand.
