Real Madrid have denied making an offer to Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez to take charge at the Bernabeu next season.
Former Real number two Benitez had claimed to have been offered the post, with current coach Fabio Capello's future still shrouded in doubt.
However, a statement from Real read: "In regard to the statements attributed to current Liverpool coach, Rafael Benitez, Real Madrid wish to deny any negotiations with said person concerning his possible arrival at the club next season.
"Real Madrid, as reiterated by the president and board of directors, are counting on coach Fabio Capello, who still has two years remaining on his three-year contract."
Benitez had earlier commented: "Madrid may be my town, but I am happy here and pleased with everything.
"It was not a difficult decision. I have an objective here. I explained that when I spoke to the new owners and they told me they would be supportive.
"It is clear that Madrid was an opportunity, but I said no because I have a lot of confidence in the future here and I believe we can win more trophies."
