Real confirm Alonso interest
Real Madrid have confirmed their interest in Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso.
Alonso is thought to be on new Real president Florentino Perez's wish-list as he looks to recapture the club's glory days.
Reports in Spain have suggested that Real have agreed a deal with Alonso, but Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez moved quickly to dismiss the claims.
Perez has admitted he is a big fan of Alonso and would love to bring him to El Santiago Bernabeu, but conceded he has yet to speak to Benitez over the Spanish international.
"As a fan, I would say that Xabi is a great player. I think he is the best passer of the ball in Europe," said Perez.
"I would be happy (to have him), but I cannot talk about the player without having spoken first to Rafa Benitez, as he is the one who needs to know that we are interested in his player."
