Raheem Sterling overlooked for England Under 21 squad

Jack Butland and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain look set to keep their place in Roy Hodgson's senior plans after the pair were not included in Stuart Pearce's latest England Under 21 squad.

The youngsters are instead set to be involved for England's forthcoming World Cup 2014 qualifiers at Wembley against Moldova and Ukraine, with manager Hodgson announcing his team on Thursday.

Blackpool winger Thomas Ince has won his first call-up to the England Under 21 squad Pearce, returning to his usual Under 21 role for the European U21 Championship qualifiers against Azerbaijan and Norway after guiding Team GB at the Olympics, has handed debut call-ups to two players.

Thomas Ince and Leicester City's Ben Marshall are both in as reward for their respective fine starts to the season in the npower Championship.

Missing out: Birmingham keeper Jack Butland (L) and Arsenal's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain look set to be included in Roy Hodgson's senior squad instead Liverpool's Jordan Henderson is expected to lead the Young Lions in Baku on September 6 before they host Norway in Chesterfield on September 10.

But there was no place for in-form Anfield team-mate Raheem Sterling, with Pearce resisting the temptation to call upon the exciting winger who will instead take his place in the Under 19 squad to play Germany. Victory in both Group 8 games will guarantee Pearce's charges a place in the decisive play-off in October.
