Rafael Benitez will use the international break to find a cure: Liverpool FC latest
Published : 12 Nov 2009 07:00:00
RAFA BENITEZ will spend the international break searching for a solution to cure Liverpool's crippling injury list. The Reds boss admitted before Monday night's clash with Birmingham how he had never experienced so many of his players encountering fitness problems at the same time - but the situation was exacerbated during the 2-2 draw. Albert Riera and Yossi Benayoun both tore their hamstrings - meaning they will be sidelined for anything between three and five weeks - to join a list that includes star striker Fernando Torres. Steven Gerrard, Glen Johnson, Alberto Aquilani, Fabio Aurelio and Daniel Agger have also suffered at various times this season and Benitez is determined to find the reason why he has been deprived of key players for so long. He has been analysing videos and has held meetings with the club's medical staff and will continue to do more of the same to get to the root of the problem in time for Manchester City's visit on November 21. The international break at least offers Benitez the opportunity for some respite and his Argentine defender Emiliano Insua believes it has come at the right time for a squad that has won just one of its last nine outings. Though Insua is eager for the Reds to get a chance to right some wrongs, he thinks the time between now and City's visit will give a number of Benitez's walking wounded to prove their wellbeing.
