Rafa reveals Gerrard progress
03 Sep 2008 - 11:55:59
Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez expects Steven Gerrard to make a rapid recovery from the groin injury which has ruled him out of England's World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Croatia.
It is hoped the Reds captain, who had surgery on the problem last week, will be ready for a return to action when Benitez's side take on Manchester United on September 13.
"Steven is okay. He's started with bicycle work and will start jogging, so I think he will be ready soon," Benitez told the club's official website.
Meanwhile, the Liverpool boss is pleased with his side's start to the season, but believes there is more to come from the team.
He added: "Javier Mascherano, Lucas Leiva and Ryan Babel arrived late and I am sure that in a few weeks' time it will be better.
"We need to have better possession and work on having a higher tempo.
"Martin Skrtel is a good centre-back, Jamie Carragher is very consistent and Sami Hyypia is a good option also, so Daniel Agger needs to work hard if he wants to play and he knows that.
"We want two players for each position but Daniel has a very good mentality and he will be ready."
