    Rafa hails Reds' derby joy

    28 Sep 2008 - 08:25:00

Rafael Benitez believes Liverpool have spelled out their title credentials following Saturday's 2-0 derby success over Everton.

The Reds maintained their unbeaten start to the new Premier League season as two second-half goals from Spanish hot-shot Fernando Torres got the better of the Toffees.

Afterwards Benitez saluted his side's confident start to the season which has left them level on points with Chelsea at the top of the table.

"We are level on points with Chelsea at the top of the table and I am really pleased and I hope we can stay there for a long time," he claimed.

"We can talk about the next game with more confidence. We have confidence and you can see the team is playing well and has a good balance.

"We are strong in defence and we know we can create in attack so that is very important.

"When you are playing well we know we can beat anyone."

Meanwhile, Benitez also singled out Torres for special praise following last season's 33-goal top-scorer's clinical display at Goodison Park.

"Clearly we have players who can change games like Fernando with his goals and it gives the team confidence and it makes it easier for us to play well and keep the ball," he added.

"Torres is always a threat for defenders."
