Newcastle ended the Reds Cup hopes in the next round but David Ashworth's side went on to win back-to-back League titles in the following two seasons.[LNB]Jan 24 1948: Man Utd 3 Liverpool 0 - 4th round[LNB]In a match played before nearly 75,000 fans at Goodison Park because Old Trafford was still closed due to World War II bomb damage, reigning League champions Liverpool slumped to a heavy defeat against a United side that would go on to win the trophy by beating Blackpool at Wembley.[LNB]Jan 30 1960: Liverpool 1 Man Utd 3 - 4th round[LNB] Bill Shankly's first encounter with the side who were to become one of his main rivals during his Anfield reign ended in disappointment as his team, with Roger Hunt, Dave Hickson and Ronnie Moran all in the side, slumped to defeat.[LNB]May 21 1977: Man Utd 2 Liverpool 1 - Final[LNB]With champions Liverpool chasing a Treble, and the club's first European Cup Final just three days away, Bob Paisley's men fell agonisingly short of their first League & FA Cup double with Lou Macari's bizarre deflected winner handing Tommy Docherty's side the trophy. Jimmy Case's stunning equaliser (below) was a moment to remember and Liverpool beat Borussia Moenchengladbach in Rome to become Champions of Europe.[LNB] April 4 1979: Liverpool 0 Man Utd 1 - semi-final replay[LNB]After a dramatic 2-2 draw at Maine Road that featured one of Kenny Dalglish's very best goals for Liverpool and a last-gap Alan Hansen equaliser (watch here), Jimmy Greenhoff's late winner at Goodison sent United to Wembley where they were to lose an epic final to Arsenal. Liverpool beat their Cup conquerors at in the league at Anfield ten days later as they romped to the title.[LNB]April 17 1985: Liverpool 1 Man Utd 2 - semi-final replay[LNB]Equalisers in the last minutes of normal time and extra time by Ronnie Whelan and Paul Walsh at Goodison Park (watch below) forced a second match at Maine Road but second half strikes by Bryan Robson and Mark Hughes overturned Paul McGrath's own goal opener to deny Joe Fagan's men.[LNB] May 11 1996: Man Utd 1 Liverpool 0 - Final[LNB]Hopes were high for a classic encounter after Roy Evans' side had performed well in the League encounters against a United side that capitalised on the collapse of Newcastle's title bid but a dour occasion was settled by Eric Cantona five minutes from time after David James flapped at a corner.[LNB]Jan 24 1999: Man Utd 2 Liverpool 1 - 4th round[LNB] Liverpool led for almost the entire match after Michael Owen's 2nd minute header but, after Paul Ince limped off with 20 minutes left, stoppage time goals from Dwight Yorke and Ole Gunnar Solksjaer stunned Gerard Houllier's side.[LNB]Feb 18 2006: Liverpool 1 Man Utd 0 - 5th round[LNB]Peter Crouch's 21st minute header gave Liverpool the first FA Cup win over the old enemy in 85 years,Rafa Benitez's side going on clinch the trophy in Cardiff against West Ham.[LNB]
