Today’s Player of the Day is the new Liverpool Football Club signing Fabio Borini. Borini signed for Liverpool on the 13th July 2012 for a fee reported to be around £10million.

He became Brendan Rodgers first signing as Liverpool boss having worked with him before at both Chelsea and Swansea. Upon signing Borini requested to wear the number 29 shirt, his lucky number.

Fabio Borini, born 29th March 1991, started his career at Bologna before moving to Chelsea in 2007. During his time at Chelsea he was mainly used in their reserve team and scored 10 goals from 11 appearances in his first season within the reserve team. In 2011 he joined Swansea City on loan, linking up with old boss Brendan Rodgers again, and was instrumental in helping the Swans return to the top flight of English Football after winning the Championship play-off final. Before signing for Liverpool, Borini had spells at Italian clubs Parma and Roma. After a particular impressive season with Roma, Borini’s performances resulted in a call up to the Italian side for the European Championships 2012.

Borini has himself likened his playing style to that of Italian legend Filippo Inzaghi having admitted his admiration for how the striker would celebrate goals even if they were winning 6-0. Liverpool fans will be hoping that Borini can emulate the success of his hero when he links up with Luis Suarez, Steven Gerrard and co. He made his Senior Italian debut on 29th February 2012 in a friendly match against the USA. He was included in the Italian team for the UEFA Euro 2012, but did not leave the bench.
