Phil Thompson: Liverpool FC will need Fernando Torres more than ever now

I'M concerned about the lack of firepower in Liverpool's squad after Roy Hodgson failed to bring in another striker before the transfer window shut.[LNB]With only Fernando Torres and David Ngog as frontline strikers, it doesn't look strong enough.[LNB]Other top clubs have four decent front men to pick from and we don't have that luxury.[LNB]We're relying greatly on Torres staying fit as although Ngog has improved he is still a rookie in Premier League terms.[LNB] Hodgson had made no secret of his desire to sign a striker but he wasn't able to complete a deal.[LNB]One man who was heavily linked with Liverpool was West Ham's Carlton Cole. In the end the clubs couldn't agree a fee but I wasn't too disappointed about that.[LNB]Cole has only had one good year and it surprised me that we went for him because his scoring record isn't that great.[LNB]One problem with trying to attract a quality centre forward was probably the fact that the favoured system appears to be one up front with either Joe Cole or Steven Gerrard playing just behind.
