There’s just no keeping Luis Suarez out of the news, or the limelight.
Despite controversy following him around like a lost sheep, with continued allegations of cheating or simulation, the Liverpool striker always seems to produce the goods.
Even Liverpool talisman Steven Gerrard has been put in the shade by the Uruguayan who is among the leading contenders once again in the race for the title of PFA Fans’ Player of the Month.
Only today, Suarez’s performances, consistency and goals have allegedly made him a summer target for Bayern Munich when Pep Guardiola takes over the reins.
Liverpool fans can rest assured that the club will do all in their power to keep hold of their star striker who has struck up an immediate understanding with new signing Daniel Sturridge, who is also picking up plenty of votes in our monthly poll.
Suarez started the month with two goals in the 3-0 win over Sunderland, and followed up his brace with strikes against Mansfield, Norwich and Oldham. Sturridge also chipped in with a couple to make a promising start to his Anfield career.
But it’s Suarez who remains the talk of the town and QPR boss Harry Redknapp, for one, has likened the South American to world player of the year Lionel Messi.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is inclined to agree, and says: “Luis is sensational, his cleverness in finding space is incredible. He's a striker that has to play two or three times a week to be on top of his game - one game a week is no good to him. He needs to be playing.
"And you see the response you get from him. His work has never dropped. Like Messi he is a real team player and trains every day. He is never in the treatment room and then he comes out and performs. As the ball moves he finds the spaces. He's a wonderful talent, and it will be fantastic to see him develop here."
Suarez (16) is currently two goals behind Manchester United ace Robin Van Persie (18) in the race for the Golden Boot, and the two are also going head-to-head in the fight to be named PFA Fans’ Player of the Month for February.
Van Persie has enjoyed a sensational first six months to his United career after his move from Arsenal, and has been the inspiration behind the club’s bid to wrest the Premier League title from Manchester rivals City.
Also in the running for our monthly award are Suarez’s Liverpool teammate Gerrard, along with Chelsea quartet Juan Mata, Frank Lampard, Demba Ba and Eden Hazard, although he may have blotted his copybook for the infamous ball boy incident.
Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere and Swansea’s leading scorer Michu also feature, but who is your favourite to take the award for January. Click on the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month banner and register your vote now.
