One-time United and Liverpool target Samba handed Pompey trial

Portsmouth manager Paul Hart is giving a trial to former Millwall and Plymouth reject Cherno Samba. The Gambian international, 24, has been without a club following his released by Finnish side FC Haka in February. The striker was once sought after by champions Manchester United and Liverpool during his days at The Den but has failed to justify his hype ever since. Samba, however, will look to put paid to the past and secure a dream move to the Barclays Premier League basement club if he can convince the Fratton Park management to award him a short-term deal after a successful trial.
