Olympiacos in talks over Riera

Liverpool have confirmed they are in talks with Olympiacos over the sale of winger Albert Riera. The Spaniard played no part in Wednesday night's friendly draw with Grasshoppers in Switzerland as discussions over his future are continuing with the Greek side. "Albert Riera did not play as a precaution because negotiations are ongoing with Olympiacos," said manager Roy Hodgson. Liverpool made a low-key start to life under Hodgson in Zurich, with new signing Joe Cole looking on from the sidelines as his team-mates drew 0-0. A youthful Reds side created little in the way of clear scoring opportunities, with Alberto Aquilani's free-kick palmed away by Ivan Benito in their best effort while striker David Ngog wasted two good chances. At the other end, Nzuzi Bundebele Toko was denied by a combination of Diego Cavalieri and Stephen Darby - though Toko also went closest to a goal for Liverpool, Benito sparing him the indignity of an own goal.
