Non-League minnows Winterbourne United want Bruce Grobelaar to come out of retirement and help them to Gloucestershire FA County Cup glory.
The clash with Patchway next month is far cry from the 1984 European Cup final in Rome, but Winterbourne hope to have the Liverpool legend's wobbly legs between the sticks before he leaves for a new life in Canada.
The audacious bid is down to Winterbourne manager Nick Tanner, who played with Grobbelaar at Liverpool in the late Eighties and early Nineties.
The 52-year-old former Zimbabwe keeper, who also played for Crewe,Southampton and Plymouth, has last appeared in goal in 2007 forNorthern League side Glasshoughton Welfare, of West Yorkshire.
HellenicLeague club Winterbourne have applied for his registration and hope hecan play in the match on December 3, just three days before he is dueto move to North America.
