No rapid return for Gerrard
18 Apr 2009 - 11:59:47
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard faces at least another week on the sidelines.
The 28-year-old England midfielder is struggling to recover from the groin problem he picked up earlier this month.
He was forced to miss the midweek Champions League clash at Chelsea and will play no part in Tuesday's Premier League fixture with Arsenal.
Gerrard is also a doubt for next weekend's game against relegation-threatened Hull City.
A statement on the Reds' official website read: "In the training session before the Champions League game at Chelsea, Steven Gerrard unfortunately aggravated a small strain he had previously suffered in his adductor muscle.
"A scan has since confirmed our medical team's initial diagnosis and the player is expected to be out for between seven and ten days.
"In the meantime, Steven will continue to receive intensive treatment on the injury at Melwood."
