No Liverpool offer for Can, says Leverkusens Voeller

Liverpool have yet to table an official offer for Emre Can, the Germany Under-21 midfielder's club Bayer Leverkusen said on Thursday.

Reports in the British media suggest the Premier League runners-up are on the verge of a £10 million (12m euros, US$16.4m) deal to bring him to Anfield for next season.

But Bayer's director of sport Rudi Voeller said the club had heard nothing about the versatile 20-year-old who enjoyed an impressive first season at Leverkusen after signing from Bayern Munich.

"We know they are interested, but we have not been presented with anything officially," Voeller told German daily Bild.

Can's contract until 2015 states he may only be sold back to his former club Bayern, who parted with him for five million euros last August, or to an overseas team.

Voeller added: "Of course, Emre has a clause in his contract, but a decision is still pending.

"I have already spoken to (Bayern chairman) Karl-Heinz Rummenigge about this topic and Bayern agree that another season with Leverkusen is important for Emre's development.

"We don't want to let him go and he should stay, that would be the best solution because that is simply better for his development."

Can made 39 appearances in all competitions since joining Bayer.
