No Silva Lining For Rafa

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has denied reports he is set to sign Valencia star David Silva.[LNB]The attack-minded midfielder has long been linked with a transfer to Anfield and speculation has increased due to Liverpool's limited offensive options.[LNB]It was thought that Benitez was keen to add Silva, 23, to the Spanish backbone of his side which already includes Jose Reina, Alvaro Arbeloa, Albert Riera, Xabi Alonso and Fernando Torres.[LNB]However, in the face of growing rumours, the former Mestalla boss has ruled out a bid to tempt cash-strapped Valencia to part with one of their most valuable assets. [LNB]"We will not be signing him," Benitez told Liverpool's official website when asked about the prospect of a close-season approach for Silva.[LNB]But with Torres the only recognised, experienced striker on Liverpool's books, it remains likely that attacking reinforcements will arrive in the summer.[LNB]And Benitez has confirmed that behind-the-scenes work is taking place as plans begin for new arrivals.[LNB]"We are working hard, talking with the scouting department and looking at names and options for next season," he added. [LNB]"It's still too soon, but we are working hard." [LNB]Meanwhile, Benitez remains cautious regarding Liverpool's chances of lifting the Premier League title, despite closing to within one point of leaders Manchester United.[LNB]He said: "Football can change very quickly and that is why we say it is important to just take one game at a time. [LNB]"Everything can change each week and maybe next week we can be at the top again. [LNB]"My message to the fans is to keep calm. I can see the people have a lot of confidence at the moment and that is good. We have to stay positive and see what happens."[LNB]
