No Liverpool return for on-loan Origi reveals Rodgers

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that talks over bringing forward Divock Origi’s loan move from Lille have ended. The Red’s signed the promising young striker this summer and loaned him back to Lille for the remainder of the season. It was thought though that with Mario Balotelli, Fabio Borini and Rickie Lambert all misfiring, in the absence of Daniel Sturridge, that bringing Origi home early could be an option. But, now Rogers has conceded that finishing the season with Lille will be what lies ahead for Origi instead.

“The original deal was for him to come next summer,” he told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show. “There were a few discussions in January.

“The likelihood is that he will stay at Lille. He’s a really exciting young talent and has got everything you need for the Premier League. He’s fast, has great feet, is tactically very good, and he works hard.

“Everything is set up for him to come to the Premier League. He just needs to finish the season at Lille and we’ll have him for next season.”

Disregarding the fact that both Borini and Lambert recently scored for Liverpool in their 2-0 defeat of Aston Villa, I think that this is the right decision for both Origi and Liverpool. Yes, Borini and Lambert getting on the score sheet could just be a fluke and then again maybe it will provide them with some much-needed confidence to carry on. However, bringing in a 19 year old, to one of the most famous clubs in the world, as a possible answer to their offensive struggles this season, could place far too much pressure on the player and in turn hinder his progress. How often have we seen such a scenario after all? Another thing to consider is what his role in Liverpool’s side would be, if he were brought back to Anfield early. He is a forward/winger but goal scoring is not his strength necessarily, and that is what Liverpool is currently starved of. A bench role for Origi would not provide much spark for Liverpool going forward, obviously. Then again, if either Lallana or Markovic were demoted in Origi’s favor, what would that say about their futures at Anfield?

Coming up with such a talented Belgian side will have done Origi’s confidence no harm. After all, his style of play would not make one presume that he has anything other than confidence in himself. So, I see no reason to take any chances in disrupting the growth in that confidence.
