Newcastle v Liverpool live

11 December 2010 19:46
Alan Pardew takes control of his first game as Newcastle boss in Saturday's late Barclays Premier League kick-off when the Toon Army welcome Liverpool to St James' Park. Roy Hodgson's side have made big improvements of late and will provide firm opposition as they look to continue their push for a European place. Follow Sportsmail's live coverage where you send me your thoughts on the action at dan.ripley@dailymail.co.uk[LNB] [LNB]Newcastle 3-1 Liverpool (5.30pm)Newcastle: Krul, Simpson, StevenTaylor, Campbell, Jose Enrique, Barton (Routledge 90), Nolan (Smith 87), Tiote, Gutierrez,Carroll, Ameobi (Ranger 63).Subs: Harper, Guthrie,Lovenkrands, Perch.[LNB]Goals: Nolan 15, Barton 80, Carroll 90.[LNB]Liverpool: Reina, Johnson, Kyrgiakos, Skrtel, Konchesky, Kuyt,Meireles, Lucas, Maxi (Jovanovic 85), Torres, Ngog (Babel 73).Subs: Jones, Aurelio, Cole, Poulsen, Kelly.[LNB]Goals: Kuyt 50.[LNB]Referee: Lee Mason (Lancashire) [LNB]19.40: That's a wrap here, Alan Pardew will be delighted that his players have responded positively and got his tenure off to a winning start.[LNB]For Liverpool though it's more toil on the road. As good as they are at Anfield (and they are very good) they are woeful away from home.[LNB]Thank you for following our live coverage of the Premier League today, good evening to you.[LNB]19.36: Man of the match Barton dedicated his accolade to Chris Hughton and his coaching staff, clearly huge respect from the players towards their old boss.[LNB]19.35: Joey Barton's post-match thoughts: [LNB]'We were disappointed to lose Chrissy (Chris Hughton), the dignified gent he was.[LNB]We care about this club and each other and we have turned in a magnificent performance, the king is dead long live the king.'[LNB]19.32: Fair play to Carroll, you can't even accuse him of being a flat-track bully as InfoStradaLive explain:[LNB]Andy Carroll scored his tenth Premier League goal of the season, and has netted in each of the last three PL matches against Big Four opposition.[LNB]19.30: Our own Ian Ladyman's thoughts on Twitter:[LNB]#lfc a shambles. Front to back. Can't carry on. Does torres want to stay? Looks not.[LNB]19.28: That result takes Newcastle into eighth spot on 22 points, leapfrogging Liverpool into ninth.[LNB]19.25: That was fully deserved for Newcastle, bar a period of Liverpool dominance in the second-half, they took total control.[LNB]Where now for Liverpool? Hodgson looked distraught at the final whistle.[LNB]Full-time: Newcastle 3-1 Liverpool[LNB]90+3min: Final sub from Newcastle, Joey Barton has been superb and is replaced by Wayne Routledge.[LNB] Team celebration: Andy Carroll center is mobbed by his teammates after his late strike[LNB]90+1min: GOAL! NEWCASTLE 3-1 Liverpool[LNB]What a strike! Andy Carroll is over 25 yards out and with time on the ball, picks his spot and thunders in a superb drive towards the bottom corner that Reina was not going to get in a month of Sundays.[LNB]Hodgson will be furious that none of his defenders closed him down.[LNB]90min: Corner for Liverpool after some good pressure. Raul to take.[LNB]Johnson beats Krul to the ball in but his header is clear over the bar.[LNB]89min: There will be four added minutes.[LNB]87min: Pardew makes his second sub with Alan Smith taking the captain's armband off Kevin Nolan.[LNB]85min: Change for Liverpool ,with Milan Jovanovic replacing Maxi.[LNB]83min: As the saying goes, Tiote has taken one for the team there as Campbell's mistake means the midfielder has no choice but to haul down Torres on the halfway line.[LNB] For the club: Joey Barton celebrates putting Newcastle in front[LNB]80min: GOAL! NEWCASTLE 2-1 Liverpool[LNB]Catalogue of errors at the back. Carroll heads the ball into the box and after Ranger again shrugs off Skrtel a race for the loose ball starts with Reina, Johnson and Joey Barton racing for it, with the midfielder first to it to divert the ball into the bottom corner.[LNB]79min: Raul's ball in though is cleared before Lucas powers his first time effort well wide from 35 yards out.[LNB]78min: Cynical from Guiterrez, Johnson completely fools him on the turn near the Newcastle byline with the Argentine then pulling him back and down as he looks to scamper off. Dangerous free-kick for Liverpool.[LNB]76min: Gone a bit scrappy but it's all Newcastle, Ranger lays the ball back for Tiote who from 25 yards blasts his strike well over.[LNB]73min: Ngog has gone off after copping a head injury from challenging for the same ball aerial ball as Kyrgiakos, and he is replaced by Babel.[LNB]71min: Few handbags here, Barton (who else) is in a war of words with Lucas and then Torres but it does not get too out of hand, although it does look like one to be sorted out in the car park after.[LNB]70min: This game is so delicately poised, Newcastle really have kicked on since the sub but you just can't rule out a goal from Liverpool. This game is sure to have more.[LNB] Debate: The players clashed after Ngog went down injured in the second half[LNB]67min: That sub seems to have worked, Liverpool dropping off, with ranger's pace causing a few problems.[LNB]64min: From superhero to superzero in a split second. Carroll's knockdown finds Ranger who after shaking off Skrtel finds himself one-on-one withe Reina.[LNB]But struggling to get the ball out his feet he panics under pressure and steers his shot wide. Bad miss.[LNB]63min: Nile Ranger is coming on for Newcastle for Ameobi who looks like he may have pulled something.[LNB]61min: Liverpool have indeed upped their game this half and looking the better side, Newcastle are looking dangerous enough to have a say in this though.[LNB]58min: Good effort, Torres closes in on goal and from 25 yards out blasts a low shot that drags just past the post.[LNB]It seemed to lack power but Krul was well beaten.[LNB]56min: Of all people to miss this. Barton whips in a perfect ball into the box and with the two Liverpool centre-backs split, Carroll powers through to head over the bar. He is furious with himself and so he should be.[LNB]54min: Liverpool should be out of sight, Kuyt's cross in the box is headed downwards towards goal by Ngog, but despite being unmarked he does not make clean contact and Newcastle can clear. Few groans around the ground.[LNB]53min: Like at Spurs last week, Torres blows it again. Paul Konchesky doe superb to switch the play for the striker who one-on-one with Krul can only fire it straight at the stopper. All Liverpool.[LNB]52min: Having looked at it again it looks like Kuty could claim that to be his ow...just. One for the dubious goal panel.[LNB] Back in it: Dirk Kuyt celebrates his equaliser for Liverpool[LNB]50min: GOAL! Newcastle 1-1 LIVERPOOL[LNB]This is the type of goal you would see at Hackney Marshes. Campbell's attempted clearance with a header is laughable as it falls straight for Dirk Kuyt, whose attempted shot is immediately diverted past a wrong footed Krul by Steven Taylor into his own goal.[LNB]48min: Early sparring, its the start of the second half. No chances yet.[LNB]Second half: Carroll and Ameobi get us going again. No changes from either side.[LNB]18.29: A tactical conundrum for Hodgson though, Torres was awful that half and having been brought back into the side on no more than reputation alone, the Liverpool boss may need to think about changes.[LNB]The man he replaced, Ryan Babel, has certainly played well in attack in recent weeks and he certainly justifies a chance.[LNB]18.27: It's been a lively encounter and I think this could become stretched as Liverpool press for an equaliser.[LNB]You would not back against them getting it, but you certainly would not rule out Newcastle doubling their lead, it's been that sort of game.[LNB]18.24: Bad news Liverpool fans from InfoStradaLive:[LNB] Liverpool have lost their last eight Premier League away matches when they were behind at half time, since a 3-2 win at Manchester City in Oct 2008.[LNB]Half-time: Newcastle 1-0 Liverpool[LNB]45+3min: A delayed corner is whipped in by Raul Meireles and Kyrgiakos steals ahead of Campbell to power a header just wide, should hit the target there.[LNB]45+1min: Two minutes of injury time.[LNB]45min: Penalty shout for Liverpool, Taylor slightly touches Maxi with his foot but the reaction is well over the top as he tumbles to ground like he has been shot.[LNB]The rules of the game will say it's a penalty but that would completely abuse fair play as he could have easily stayed on his feet, and Lee Mason shows great common sense to wave away that claim.[LNB]43min: Slight inconsistency there a Ameobi goes in late on Johnson, not too dissimilar to the challenge that earned Johnson his booking.[LNB]42min: Free-kick for Newcastle in a similar position to the goal after Kyrgiakos fouls Carroll, this time though Liverpool manage to clear Barton's ball in the box.[LNB]40min: A brief respite after Cheik Tiote clashes heads with Dirk Kuyt with the latter coming off worse in the challenge for a header.[LNB]Straight into action: Newcastle boss Alan Pardew gives out orders from the touchline, with Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson looking concerned in the background[LNB]36min: Speaking of deflections, Raul Meireles gives the ball away to Ameobi in the own half, before the striker's shot deflects off Martin Skrtel and just wide, with Reina completely beaten by the change of direction.[LNB]34min: And it causes pandemonium! A loose ball is hit low with some power by Raul Meireles and after taking a deflection off Ngog, is cleared off the line by Jose Enrique.[LNB]33min: Lack of communication at the back has turned a comfortable position for Newcastle into a corner for Liverpool.[LNB]A long ball in the box is chased down by Steven Taylor and Krul, but with no shout on it they collide with it then scrambled behind to safety.[LNB]30min: Fantastic from Carroll, Barton clips a ball to the striker on the edge of the box whose header starts a one-two with Ameobi blasting the return on the volley first time, that Reina is right behind. Great play.[LNB]27min: It's better than his volley in that he actually connects with it, but Torres' effort is straight at Carroll in the wall before a follow up is blasted harmlessly wide.[LNB]26min: Comical free-kick, Torres lines up a volley, takes a swing and misses everything and as he falls over wins a free-kick, in making it look like Campbell tripped him.[LNB]Just 20 yards out too.[LNB]25min: Away side continue with the possession and look very confident with the ball in midfield but they just can't get it forward.[LNB]23min: Liverpool seeing a bit more of the ball since the goal but can't seem to bring the strikers into the game, Torres and Ngog are feeding off long punts upfield.[LNB]20min: Barton's cross in finds Sol Campbell whose slight touch just fools Reina a little with the Spaniard taking an unorthodox position to collect the ball.[LNB] Pounced: Kevin Nolan (centre) is first on the scene to Andy Carroll's knockdown to put Newcastle in front[LNB]19min: Silly from Glen Johnson he gives away a needless free-kick on the left after tripping Jonas Gutierrez and cops a booking as well.[LNB]17min: Delight all round to from the stands to a certain Mr Ashley.[LNB]Well I say delight, Roy Hodgson looks like a man who has just seen his team go 1-0 down...oh wait.[LNB]16min: I don't know if that was a Pardew piece from training but it was all in the Carroll header, is there anyone better in the air?[LNB]15min: GOAL! NEWCASTLE 1-0 Liverpool[LNB]Brilliant set piece. Barton slips the ball to the far post where Andy Carroll nods the ball across goal for Kevin Nolan to bury past Pepe Reina.[LNB]15min: Free-kick central 35 yards out for Newcastle, Joey Barton stepping over this.[LNB]13min: Better from Torres who has looked like he couldn't tarp cement in the early stages of this game[LNB]But his trickery with his feet forces Newcastle to divert the ball out from him for a corner, that Newcastle survive.[LNB]11min: But the follow up is scary stuff for the home side, Sotirios Kyrgiakos is free in space inside the area and his rasping drive is well stopped by Tim Krul.[LNB]For a centre-back he got some good purchase on that.[LNB]10min: Free-kick on the corner of the penalty are for the Reds but Raul Meireles ball in is headed away by Newcastle.[LNB] It's good to be here: Mike Ashley takes up his seat before the game[LNB]8min: It's no secret Liverpool are awful on their travels, just two away wins all 2010 says everything but even Torres is not on it as InfoStradaLive explain:[LNB]He has scored once in his last 10 Premier League away matches and provided one assist in his last 18.[LNB]5min: Good opening this, slightly lacking in quality but both sides showing belief.[LNB]Sign of the former is Shola Ameobi, who despite having the whole back line to look across finds himself ruled offside form a Joey Barton through ball.[LNB]3min: Both teams looking sharp early on, but it's Maxi Rodriguez who has the first effort blasting just over the bar from 25 yards. More of a sighter than a chance.[LNB]Kick-off: Fernando Torres and David Ngog kick us off.[LNB]17.30: Mixed reception for Pardew, lukewarm applause at first but then some noticeable boos.[LNB]Verdict: Could have been worse.[LNB]17.29: Warm applause for the players (as you would expect when they walk out).[LNB]17.28: The teams are out in the tunnel.[LNB]17.27: I still remember that 4-3 back when Kevin Keegan's Newcastle dramatically let the title slip late in the season.[LNB]Keegan's look of anguish when Stan Collymore scored the late winner for Liverpool is one of the Premier League's most memorable moments.[LNB]Late winner: Stan Collymore celebrates putting Liverpool 4-3 up against Newcastle in 1996[LNB]17.26: On to what is important though, the actual game. If it's classics you're after, then these are your two teams.[LNB]17.25: Was not quite as arrogant as the quotes maybe suggest but he seems up for this test.[LNB]17.24: Alan Pardew pre-match:[LNB]'I'm braced for a difficult reception, I know what to expect but I will focus on the job.[LNB]I know my job and I know I'm good at it.'[LNB]17.22: Of course you can't blame Newcastle fans for their reaction, it is one of the most ludicrous sackings I can remember in recent memory.[LNB]But Pardew is the man in the hot seat now and for the team's sake they must back him.[LNB]17.20: Just to make it worse, it's Hughton's birthday today, no doubt another fuel to the fire for Toon Army fans.[LNB]17.18: I kind of feel for Pardew, judging by fan's reactions this week and today he is going to come out in his first game to a probable chorus of boos and chants for Chris Hughton. That can't be easy.[LNB]17.15: New Newcastle boss Alan Pardew names skipper Kevin Nolan and experienced midfielder Joey Barton for his first game in charge against Liverpool.[LNB]Both men returned from injury as Danny Guthrie and Wayne Routledge make way with the Magpies looking for a first Barclays Premier League win in six attempts.[LNB]Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson makes only one change to the side which beat Aston Villa 3-0 last time out, with striker Fernando Torres returning after the birth of his second child in place of Ryan Babel.[LNB]Home fans staged angry protests outside the ground before kick-off as they made their feelings over Chris Hughton's sacking on Monday abundantly clear.[LNB]17.13: Newcastle v LiverpoolNewcastle: Krul, Simpson, Steven Taylor, Campbell, Jose Enrique, Barton, Nolan, Tiote, Gutierrez, Carroll, Ameobi. Subs: Harper, Guthrie, Routledge, Lovenkrands, Perch, Smith, Ranger.Liverpool: Reina, Johnson, Kyrgiakos, Skrtel, Konchesky, Kuyt, Meireles, Lucas, Maxi, Torres, Ngog. Subs: Jones, Aurelio, Cole, Jovanovic, Babel, Poulsen, Kelly.Referee: Lee Mason (Lancashire)[LNB]17.10: Mad, desperate, stupid...they are just some of the comments going around about Alan Pardew's decision to take charge at Newcastle, slightly unfair maybe but given the nature of his predecessor's exit, you can see why.[LNB]As fate would have it he will be firmly under the spotlight in his first game in charge as he takes on Liverpool, who have a fan base still trying to adjust their own recent appointment in the hot seat. Team news coming up.[LNB] New era: Alan Pardew will hope Andy Carroll (pictured) can continue his fine form this season under his reign[LNB]  Chris Hughton sacking 'stupid', blasts Newcastle United star Andy Carroll Johnson: Liverpool can still gatecrash top four despite dismal startALL NEWCASTLE UNITED FC
