New Reds deal for Benayoun
06 Jul 2009 - 12:17:02
Midfielder Yossi Benayoun is the latest Liverpool player to pledge his long-term future to the club with a new contract.
The Israel international is the fifth member of Rafael Benitez's first-team squad to agree terms on a new deal during the close season.
Skipper Steven Gerrard, star striker Fernando Torres, Daniel Agger and Dirk Kuyt have all put pen to paper in recent weeks.
Benayoun is now set to follow suit after agreeing a new contract which ties him to the Anfield club until summer 2012.
The 29-year-old scored nine goals in 40 appearances for the Reds last season.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have secured the futures of two of their most promising youngsters after handing new contracts to Jay Spearing and Stephen Darby.
Midfielder Spearing and full-back Darby - both 20 - have agreed terms on new three-year contracts.
Both players made a handful of first-team appearances last season after graduating from the club's academy.
