Milan deny Agger interest
11 Dec 2008 - 08:23:09
AC Milan chief executive Adriano Galliani has denied claiming his club is interested in signing Liverpool defender Daniel Agger.
Galliani was quoted on Wednesday discussing his admiration for Agger and suggesting a move for the 24-year-old Denmark international was a possibility in the January transfer window.
However, despite claims that the former Brondby defender was one of 'three or four names' Milan were considering, the Serie A side have issued a statement denying the comments attributed to their chief executive.
"With regard to the alleged phrases Adriano Galliani issued to the press in Denmark and reported by several Italian outlets, the Rossoneri's CEO denies that he has ever issued any statement," read a club statement.
Last week, Reds boss Rafael Benitez was forced to deny suggestions that Agger was unhappy at Anfield after failing to agree terms on a new long-term contract.
He added: "Agger is very happy here. I have spoken to him today about the things that have been said about his contract and it was a very positive conversation.
"He is pleased and happy to stay here. He knows he has not been playing at the same level he achieved last season, but I am still pleased with him.
"He is not playing badly, but he knows he can do better. I have great confidence in him and he is a fantastic professional and he wants to stay with us."
