Lionel Messi has urged compatriot Javier Mascherano to swap Liverpool for Barcelona and join him in Spain.
Mascherano is reported to be wanted by the Catalan club and Messi would welcome his Argentina international team-mate to the Camp Nou.
"Of course I would like him to join," he told El Mundo Deportivo. "Who would not want to play with great players like Javier? I hope he can come here."
However, Barca are likely to find strong Liverpool opposition to their interest in the 25-year-old defensive midfielder.
Reds boss Rafael Benitez has continually stressed that Mascherano is not for sale since the last Premier League season ended.
Barcelona's Spanish rivals Real Madrid are also believed to be interested in signing the former West Ham United and Corinthians midfielder.
