Meireles crocked in cup victory

Liverpool are expecting midfielder Raul Meireles to be sidelined for "a few weeks" after he damaged a collarbone at Exeter on Wednesday Meireles was forced out of the action after just 19 minutes of the Carling Cup second round tie with the injury following a clash with Exeter defender Danny Coles.

Boss Kenny Dalglish doesn't yet know how serious the problem is the Portugal star left the pitch clutching his left shoulder and the Liverpool chief admitted he would be out for "a few weeks.

"Dalglish said: "Raul has hurt his collarbone. I don't know what the technical term is but he fell heavily.

"He will come back with us and we will see how long it is before he is back."We don't know how serious it is but it'll be a few weeks." Meireles' injury marred a successful night for Liverpool with goals from Luis Suarez, Maxi Rodriguez and Andy Carroll securing their safe passage through to the third round.

Dalglish added: "Martin Skrtel got through the game no problem, Danny Wilson got 90 minutes, Andy Carroll gets his first goal of the season and Maxi got a goal. "We are quite happy we have gone through. The most pleasing thing was the attitude we showed."
